There is so much great poetry to choose from in 2019 that it’s hard to know where to begin. The standout collections for me undoubtedly are Deaf Republic by Ilya Kaminsky, for its intriguing/horrifying absurdist creation of a regime, Surge by Jay Bernard, who writes with a chilling urgency about love and loss, initially in the context of the New Cross fire, Perseverance by Raymond Antrobus, whose first full collection marks the next exciting stage in the development of a phenomenal talent, and Selected Poems by the fabulous Colette Price. Other collections still waiting on the must read pile are new works by Anthony Wilson, Alice Oswald, Paula Green and Jane Spiro. January 2020 looks like a very promising month for poetry already. Happy Poeming everyone.
