As this new decade begins I am excited to start a new job as an Associate Professor at Nottingham Trent University and a new poetry research project with my long time collaborator Anthony Wilson. Young Poets’ Stories will explore the development stories of a sample group of young poets who have been award-winning and highly commended entrants in The Foyle Young Poets of the Year Award, a well established competition that has been running for 20 years. We hope that our research will inform poetry writing theory and mentoring practice for the benefit and inclusion of other young people who may be unaware of the significant creative development that the Foyle Young Poets Award could offer them. This work will build on our theoretical paper Wilson and Dymoke (2017) and previous publications including Making Poetry Matter (Dymoke, Lambirth and Wilson 2013). It is funded by the Foyle Foundation and supported by Nottingham Trent University and the University of Exeter. Look out for further updates in early February.
