Counterfeiting Robert Burns

While you prepare to sip your wee dram of Talisker (or other preferred tipple) and to address your haggis on Burns night you might want to check out the extraordinary work from the Centre for Robert Burns Studies at the University of Glasgow. Their AHRC-funded project ‘Editing Robert Burns for the 21st Century’ includes a series of online documentaries about aspects of this research. Fakers & Forgers: Counterfeiting Robert Burns is a fascinating programme. It not only underlines the huge popularity of the poet but the extraordinary lengths that some forgers have gone to pass off their work as original manuscripts or to fake previously ‘undiscovered’ poems by Burns. Enjoy!
