Poetry Place and Inspire Poetry Festival

I am delighted to be involved in the Inspire Poetry Festival this year with writing workshops and an exhibition launch. The full programme starts on Saturday 18th Sept and includes a rich array of in-person and online events – a veritable poetry takeover.

Mansfield Central Library Poetry Place exhibition opens Sat 18th Sept

Poetry Place stemmed from my long-held interests in taking and viewing photographs and exploring local archives. I have a firm belief that unexpected discoveries can inspire writing.

Earlier this year I led a series of online writing workshops, supported by Inspire and the Miner2Major fund, using archive material about the Sherwood Forest mining region from the Inspire Picture Archive and the National Library of Scotland A selection of the resulting poems written by people from the region are on show at Mansfield Central Library along with the fascinating images that inspired them. The exhibition is free and will be in Mansfield until Sunday 31st October before heading off on tour to other libraries including Worksop, Beeston and West Bridgford until 2023. A version of the exhibition will also be available online from 18th Sept. I hope you will enjoy this Poetry Place exhibition and feel inspired to explore the riches of the digital archive for yourselves.
